My name is Huaiyu Peter Chen and I am a registered financial advisor with both Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations. I started MEV Value LLC in 2015 after hearing many people complain that their financial institutions charged them hefty fees on their mutual funds and financial advisory services, regardless of whether they make money or not. My business model is to provide equity portfolio management and retirement planning services based on performance. If my client’s wealth is not growing, my service is free. For equity portfolio management, my service is measured against the S&P 500.
Most financial advisors and financial planners charge fees based on clients' assets under management, regardless of the client's portfolio performance. My approach to fees is totally different. First of all, I do not charge a fee unless the client's wealth has grown. Secondly, for equity portfolio management, my service is free unless the client's portfolio has outperformed the S&P 500 index.
I would treat you as a business partner to invest for long term based on your goals, risk tolerance, investment horizon, tax rates and unique circumstances. I would help you construct an investment plan and build a portfolio accordingly. Periodical reviews are necessary to ensure that your plan evolves with lifestyle changes. Once we build our long-term plan, we stick with it regardless of headline news and market volatility. My most important role is to instill disciplines in your investment decision-making process.
I consider stock as a partial ownership of a business and adopt a long-term buy and hold investment strategy. In short term, the stock market is a voting machine wherein the Investors’ sentiments and emotions drive the movements. In long term, the stock price is determined by the earning power of the underlying business. My selection would be a group of well diversified businesses with enduring competitive advantages and ever growing earning powers.
